Disadvantages of 4G Mobiles

New frequencies means new components in cell towers.
Higher data prices for consumers
Consumer is forced to buy a new device to support the 4G
It is impossible to make your current equipment compatible with the 4G network
4G is only currently available in certain cities within the United States.

quipment has not been fully developed for network
Network has more complex security issues
Network protocols and standardization have not been defined
Not many areas have 4G service yet
Very expensive

Today is the day of internet. In most field wireless system is very widely used.Currently a number of technologies like1G,2G,2.5G,3G etc A new technology is introduced which is called as 4G technology.

Fourth generation wireless system is a packet switched wireless system with wide area coverage and high throughput. It is designed to be cost effective and to provide high spectral efficiency. Data rate of 20mbps is employed. Mobile speed will be up to200km/hr.The high performance is achieved by the use of long term channel in both time termchannel in both time and frequency ,scheduling among users and smart antennas combined with adaptive modulation and power control. Frequency band is 2-8 GHz. it gives the ability for world wide roaming to access cell anywhere. It uses OFDM (ortogonal frequency divisional multiplexing) and Ultra Wide Radio Band(UWB), and Millimeter wireless and smart antenna.4G uses a multi network functional device software which is very helpful for multiple user.

Best Digital camara for Wedding photography

Canon EOS 5D Mark III

Special features :

Background Blue
Object near by
bla bla bla........26 extra features... good one for wedding photos

At less than half the price of the 1Dx, the 22MP Canon 5D Mark III's image quality test results lagged behind its pricier sibling by just a hair. However, the camera's layout, more compact size, and lower price make it the best choice for many wedding photographers. Improved autofocus, boosted ISO to 102,400 and clean ISO through 2000 are all great results, and the generous buffer size, shutter life cycle claimed at 150,000 clicks, and rugged build make it the Canon DSLR you're most likely to use for wedding work.

If you are a seasoned wedding professional photographer, you understand that in this era of fast-changing (and improving) technology, the best camera a couple of years ago may not be able to deliver the combination of image quality and usability that will allow you to keep up with or ahead of the competition. Besides, if you've shot over 100,000 pictures with it, your workhorse camera may be nearing the end of its lifespan. You owe it to yourself to consider upgrading.
While the default answer may be that you should buy the newest version of the camera you already have, you may want to consider either switching systems, upgrading, or going with the most obvious, default option

Moto E secret codes

Moto E secret codes

Motorola Moto E is the best smartphone for the budget conscious audience as it gives too much features as compared to its price and  reliability in the market. Best features are Android Kitkat, Snapdragon Processor, Great Display and a 5MP camera.
Secret Codes helps you to access some internal functions of mobile which are intended for developers and troubleshooting purposes. They are the combination of numeric and Special Characters like * and #.

There a lots of differents keypad commands in Android. Which one do you know ?

Some of them are listed here :

*#*#checkin#*#* Phones home to check for updates.

*#*#info#*#* - Enters a detailed phone information menu.

*#*#1472365#*#* : Access to the GPS config menu (useful for patching Galaxy S GPS failure)
This code can be used to get some interesting information about your phone and battery. It shows following 4 menus on screen:

    Phone information
    Battery information
    Battery history
    Usage statistics

*#*#7780#*#*

This code can be used for a factory data reset. It'll remove following things:

Google account settings stored in your phone
System and application data and settings
    Downloaded applications

It'll NOT remove:

Current system software and bundled applications
SD card files e.g. photos, music files, etc.

PS: Once you give this code, you get a prompt screen asking you to click on "Reset phone" button. So you get a chance to cancel your operation.

*2767*3855#

Think before you give this code. This code is used for factory format. It'll remove all files and settings including the internal memory storage. It'll also reinstall the phone firmware.

PS: Once you give this code, there is no way to cancel the operation unless you remove the battery from the phone. So think twice before giving this code.

*#*#34971539#*#*

This code is used to get information about phone camera. It shows following 4 menus:

Update camera firmware in image (Don't try this option)
Update camera firmware in SD card
    Get camera firmware version
    Get firmware update count

WARNING: Never use the first option otherwise your phone camera will stop working and you'll need to take your phone to service center to reinstall camera firmware.

*#*#7594#*#*

This one is my favorite one. This code can be used to change the "End Call / Power" button action in your phone. Be default, if you long press the button, it shows a screen asking you to select any option from Silent mode, Airplane mode and Power off.

You can change this action using this code. You can enable direct power off on this button so you don't need to waste your time in selecting the option.

*#*#273283*255*663282*#*#*

This code opens a File copy screen where you can backup your media files e.g. Images, Sound, Video and Voice memo.

*#*#197328640#*#*

This code can be used to enter into Service mode. You can run various tests and change settings in the service mode.

WLAN, GPS and Bluetooth Test Codes:

*#*#232339#*#* OR *#*#526#*#* OR *#*#528#*#* - WLAN test (Use "Menu" button to start various tests)

*#*#232338#*#* - Shows WiFi MAC address

*#*#1472365#*#* - GPS test

*#*#1575#*#* - Another GPS test

*#*#232331#*#* - Bluetooth test

*#*#232337#*# - Shows Bluetooth device address

*#*#8255#*#*

This code can be used to launch GTalk Service Monitor.

Codes to get Firmware version information:

*#*#4986*2650468#*#* - PDA, Phone, H/W, RFCallDate

How to increase traffic in a blog

Traffic is one of the most important parameters for your blog; the more people who find your blog, the more people who will read your ideas. If you're ready and willing to have your blog admired in the online community, then try a few different methods of increasing blog traffic. You'll create better content in the end, and probably have dozens of new viewers each day.

Choose a catchy and descriptive title. The title of your blog is one of the first things that readers will see and one of the factors that search engines use to determine what your blog is about. The title of your blog should let readers know right away what your blog is about. It should be easy to remember, not too long, and not too similar to another website's name.

Focus on your design. The first thing people notice when they visit your blog, is the way it looks. And although the old adage goes that one shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, the same isn’t always true for a blog. If you want people to stay on your blog, you’ve got to hook them with an eye-catching design; once they’re interested in the appearance, they’ll start reading to see what you’re all about.

Create a title/header that matches the theme and content of your blog. A clean, well designed header will tell readers a lot about your blog, and hopefully have them sticking around.
Keep your color scheme to a maximum of three hues. Too many colors can appear overwhelming, and distract readers from content. Choose at least one or two neutral colors, and one or two bright/bolder colors.

Create a small logo or image to represent your blog, if applicable. Having a ‘brand’ will make your blog memorable, and help others to recognize it when they see the logo around the internet.

4G/LTE mobile network poses health risks

If you're one of the people who has suspected cell phones/cell towers were bad news, get ready for the latest affront to our health: The 4G/LTE network. This is the latest scheme cooked up by the greedy telecommunications industry. It promises much faster bandwidth than the previous 3G incarnation, thereby providing lightning-fast mobile internet on your mobile phone or device (great for watching YouTube/Hulu). Unfortunately, there is a major downside to 4G technology (and all wireless technology that emits radiation for that matter), and it comes as a cost to our health and well-being.

As the internet age has evolved, cellular phones and devices have evolved along with it. Cell phones used to be for making calls on the go. Eventually, text messaging came onto the scene, and that was the new craze. Now, 4G mobile internet and mobile video streaming is the new novelty. Unfortunately, the bandwidth required for mobile internet and video streaming on a cellular device is greater than what can be provided over older, conventional 2G/3G cell phone tower networks. So for 4G, there have been many new high-powered cell towers erected around the world, with little thought about the adverse effects that the addition of more radiation-emitting technology will cause.
physicians have noticed a continuous increase in the number of people with chronic complaints. Doctors have taken blood draws or saliva from patients, and determined in 2012 that one in three patients has radiation overload. In 2002, only one patient in 30 were radiation stressed. In 300 patients with chronic health complaints, 138 of them were caused by radiation (from wireless internet or cell phone tech). These numbers have gotten worse with 3G and ubiquitous Wi-Fi hot spots around the world. How bad are these numbers going to get with the 4G/LTE network?

Plankton were used in experiments to test the adverse properties of wireless signals in lab tests. In these experiments, the wireless-exposed plankton died or were deformed within several days of chronic exposure. With Wi-Fi it took 96 hours, 3G took 72 hours, and with 4G the plankton died within 48 hours. Since all living organisms ultimately escape the effects that unnatural radiation has on them, we must ask ourselves this: If wireless radiation is killing or deforming plankton, what is it doing to us?

Especially for LADIES...CHICKEN WINGS IS DANGEROUS...MUST READ..

 CHICKEN WINGS IS DANGEROUS

Any ladies like to eat chicken wings here? I just received this email from a friend of mine regarding chicken wings..It's a true story and just happened a few months ago. That particular lady, likes to eat chicken wings everyday. A few months ago, she discovered that she had a growth in her womb and need to undergo operation to removed it. The cyst that removed was filled with dark colored blood. She thought that she will be fine after that. But, a relapse happened a few months later. She rushed to visit her gynecologist for a consultation. Her doctor asked her whether she is a frequent consumer of chicken wings. She replied yes and the doctor explained to her. You see, in this modern days, chickens are injected with steroids to accelerate their growth so that the needs of this society can be met. Chickens that are injected with steroids usually are given the shot at the neck or the wings. Therefore, these places had the highest concentration of steroids. It had even more dangerous effect in the presence of female hormones and can leads to growth of cyst in the womb. Please inform all your friends and your loved ones about this matter..

Xiaomi launches Redmi 2 smartphone at Rs 6,999

Xiaomi launches Redmi 2

Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi has launched its budget smartphone Redmi 2 in the Indian market at Rs 6,999. This 4G-capable smartphone was originally launched in January this year.
At this price point, this smartphone will directly compete against the upcoming second-generation Moto E with 4G, along with Lenovo A6000.
While Redmi 2 shares a few features with its predecessor, it has a few upgrades apart from the 4G-capability. The new model is powered by the 64-bit 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor, while Redmi 1S comes with the 1.6GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 chipset.
The front camera gets a resolution bump, from 1.6MP in Redmi 1S to 2MP in Redmi 2. The battery is also slightly beefier at 2,200mAh in the new smartphone, up from 2,000mAh of Redmi 1S. Xiaomi's Redmi 2 smartphone also supports QuickCharge 1.0 technology for faster battery charging.
Xiaomi will be preloading the Android 4.4-based MIUI 6.0 software with Redmi 2, while the Redmi 1S runs on the Android 4.3-based MIUI 5.0 custom skin.
The new model is thinner (9.2mm) and lighter (134gram) than its predecessor (9.9mm and 158gram).

The remaining features of Redmi 2 are same as that of its older sibling, including the 4.7-inch HD screen with DragonTrail glass, 8GB internal storage, up to 32GB microSD card support, 1GB RAM and connectivity options.
The new Redmi 2 will be available exclusively on Flipkart in India, like other Xiaomi products. The registrations for the smartphone start today at 6 PM, while the first flash sale will be held on March 24. The company said that 30,000-40,000 units will be available on launch day.
Xiaomi Redmi 2 will be available via Airtel stores a few weeks after the first flash sale.
Xiaomi global vice president Hugo Barra said that another Redmi 2 variant with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage will be released in India later, without specifying a price range. He added that the model will be priced higher than the standard Redmi 2 model.

Make Your Own Security Camera System With A Computer & Webcams

a 2 tb hdd with system web cam and a 30 mtrs usb connector

Using A Computer & Webcams To Make A Security Camera System Is Cheap & Easy!
This comprehensive, helpful guide, that I put together, will have your security cameras up and running in no time! Computer programs nowadays are more user friendly.... so the programs involved, in this article, are easy to install. I've listed a couple of programs that I use & have used - they should help if you don't have one....but, for the most part, webcams usually come with their own awesome program with some really great software, especially the Logitech webcams!

Ultimately, I have some tips and tricks to get to the key things you need, for your own system, to have them operational quickly.
I've also added some great security footage that I've captured with my cameras!
If for some reason you don't plan on making your own system, I also added some of the coolest, best selling, highly rated security camera surveillance systems to check out, near the end of this article, after the security camera footage section.
Also, after that section are other ways to run different types of cameras to your computer through your usb, Primarily running retail security cameras through your computer to view & record them. I've also listed other ways as well as using different devices for security systems outside of your computer.....This page has a wealth of information! Enjoy!
*This page will show and explain to you what method I use, as well as the equipment & software. You can choose to do it this way or make changes with whatever ones you want. Even if this idea, once you're reading it, doesn't appeal to you, you should keep reading it to at least gather some info on things you may have over-looked or may need to know when making your own system from scratch or even when installing a retail one. There are also some other relevant articles that I linked to, for other ways to run a security camera with other implementations.
*No matter the season... Whether it's Summer, when people are out and about a lot more. Especially with school out that's when all sorts of shenanigans will be going on(teenagers with too much time on their hands), to capture on your security cameras. In the wintertime, people are usually cooped up inside and don't cause much chagrin. The only winter problems/security footage are snowball throwings and cars sliding on ice and snow, some great time lapse snowfall videos to film. So, now's definitely the time to get a security camera system going! Here, I'll show you how....

Laptop Tips To Extend Its Life Expectancy

Laptops are replaced every few years. We crave fancier hardware, novel features, and maybe our old device has become unresponsive and suffered some damage over time. Consequently, most laptops get thrown out prematurely.

Unless you are looking for a silly excuse to buy a new and shiny device, you will love to hear that there are many ways to make your laptop last longer. Apart from delaying the headache of setting up a new computer and moving all your files over, this will also save you money in the long run. So let’s see what you can do to turn your laptop into an electronic Methuselah.
1: Treat Your Laptop With Care

Laptops can be fragile. I should know; not long ago I broke my laptop screen (and fixed it). Besides this unfortunate accident, I have had my fair share of worn out keyboards, broken power supplies, and failed hard drives. Most components can be easily replaced, but something like a broken hard drive, with all your precious files on it, is a whole different story.

Hard Drive

Some wear and tear can be avoided simply by handling your hardware with care. Next to the display, the hard drive is the most fragile part of your laptop. As Matt writes in his article on how to utterly destroy your laptop, move your laptop gently and try not to move it when the hard drive is performing intensive operations. Your hardware will thank you and last longer.

Even modern computers require some care to stay in tip-top shape; here’s our straightforward guide to keeping yours running like new and problem-free.

lenovo_ideapad_u330In this guide we’ll review tasks that should be run on a regular basis including file backups, software updates, malware scans, hardware health and computer cleaning. Performing these regular maintenance items will improve your computer’s health in the long run and have the added bonus of helping make you aware of any problem areas before they become a potential show-stopper. This guide is organized by time period: daily, weekly, monthly and yearly.

Before You Start…

This guide is aimed at users of Microsoft Windows 7/8/8.1 based computers. You, the reader assume all risk of following this guide.

 Daily

Task: Backup files

The largest concern on a daily basis is making sure your files are backed up. Data loss can occur for any number of reasons – hardware failure (either from manufacturing defect or an accident, such as spilling water on your notebook or dropping it); losing the computer (or worse, having it stolen); and the hardest to prevent, accidental deletion.

The good news is that you can back up your files for free using a downloadable utility from Microsoft called SyncToy, available to download here.

Use our easy-to-follow guide to install and setup SyncToy. This guide also shows you how to choose and buy an external storage device if you don’t already own one. It’s important to have an external storage device because a backup isn’t really a backup unless you’re storing your files independently of the computer.

Once you have SyncToy installed and setup, simply plug in your external storage device, open SyncToy and run it once daily (or more often as needed; personally I back up my files each time I create or modify an important document).

Every Week

CCleanerTask: Clean up temporary/unneeded files

For this part, we’ll use Piriform’s CCleaner, a freeware utility designed to clean up temporary and unnecessary files on your computer. This can positively affect performance and free up storage space. Download the software here.

Open CCleaner once it’s installed; leave all settings at default and click the Analyze button to get an idea of what CCleaner will do. My example above is a particularly bad case; I have over 13GB of space being used up unnecessarily. If you’re satisfied with what you see, click Run Cleaner. The software’s default settings are generally safe but you might want to perform a backup ahead of time just in case – see how to do this under the Daily section of this guide.

Task: Restart computer

This one’s simple: fully restart your computer. Theoretically the computer should be able to run for more than a week without issues but a full restart on a regular basis has the positive effect of freeing up memory space and improving stability. Close all open programs and files prior to doing the following.

Windows 7: open the Start menu; click the arrow next to the Shut down button and click Restart.

Windows 8/8.1: open the Charms (press the Windows Key + C keys simultaneously or swipe in from the right side if you have a touch-enabled display); then click Settings; finally click Power and then Restart.

ComputerScanTask: Scan for malware

You’ll need to have an antivirus product installed to perform this; see our software reviews if you’re in the market. Note free software is available. Open your antivirus program and perform a full system scan. You’re best off scheduling this to be done automatically if possible (nearly all modern antivirus solutions can do this).

Overview and Key Features

The Xiaomi 1S is the most basic offering from Xiaomi but the phone isn’t that basic when it comes to specifications. The Chinese manufacturer believes in selling their devices at cost and that gives them a huge edge wherever they have launched in the world.

The Xiaomi 1S has a 4.7 inch display which has a 1280x720 pixel HD resolution which takes the pixel density to 312PPI, which is probably the sharpest at the price point. If that wasn’t enough, it is also an IPS panel; which should deliver better viewing angles. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 2 and should provide good protection from scratches. The processor is a Snapdragon 400 Quad-core chip clocked at 1.6GHz. It has 1GB of RAM onboard and must be adequate for apps nowadays. The device comes with 8GB of storage which can be expanded to 64GB via a microSD card slot. The device has an 8 megapixel snapper with flash and a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera. The device runs the MIUI interface on top of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean out of the box. It has a changeable 2000mAh Li-Po battery. Last but not the least, its a Dual SIM phone, unlike Xiaomi’s high-end Mi3 model. Bottom line — the phone offers better specs than the Moto G at the price of the Moto E
.

unable to hear clear sound of your cell phone

Can't hear phone calls unless it's through rear speaker or headphones

How do I solve the problem of not being able to hear phone calls unless I'm on "speakerphone" or have a set of headphones plugged in?

I think the problem started a few days ago when I was listening to some music through the headphone jack. Ever since then (I don't use the phone much, so I'm not certain) I haven't been able to take or make a call without using speakerphone mode, or plugging in some headphones. When I unplug the headphones, I can't hear anything through the front (screen side) speaker that's normally used for phone conversations.

I've tried plugging in and unplugging a set of headphones over and over again, hoping it would switch back. But, I haven't had any luck. I've tried a hard reset as well, and that hasn't helped me either. I'm willing to open it up and see if I can fix it, but not sure what I'm looking for. So, I'm hoping someone can help out. If all else fails, I have an EVO 4g I can use until I'm due for a new phone.
I'm sure this has happened to others before. But, searching for "phone speaker" doesn't bring up much useful stuff (I'm not good at searching the right terms I'm sure)..

solution :
please take a pin slowly clear the dust of the ear piece steel cover and wrap the pin slowly . please do not put the pin in side of the steel mesh.just touch the steel mesh and the clear the dust and dial 123 or 121 to listen the sound.OK its clear...

Speed Up Your Android Smart Phones in Under 5 Minutes

Speed Up Your Android Phone

You used to love your Android handset, but now that it has slowed down considerably, the bloom is off the rose. When you hit the home button or launch a new app, it takes what seems like an eternity to switch to the new task or back to the desktop. Maybe your Android phone has become so slow that letters appear a second or two after you type them. Fortunately, you can rekindle the romance and speed up your Android phone in under 5 minutes if you use these simple tips. Talk about a quickie!
1. Clear Your App Cache (30 seconds)
Over time, your programs write to the app cache on your phone and eat up precious system resources while slowing everything down. You can clear the cache on any individual app by visiting its property page in the Settings menu and tapping the clear cache button, but with dozens of apps on most phones, it could take an eternity to do this manually.

Clear Cache Settings

App Cache Cleaner, a free app, makes it easy to delete the cache on all your apps at once with just a couple of taps. After installing and launch App Cache Cleaner, simply tap Clear All and you’re done.

Cache Cleaner

Of course, the cache will fill  up again over time, and you’ll want to delete it again. App Cache Cleaner has an Auto Clear feature. If you enter its settings menu, tap Auto Clear Interval and select a duration, it will automatically clear the cache on a regular basis. However, this means that the app needs to run in the background.

Auto Clear Interval in App Cache Cleaner

Installing and using App Cache Cleaner for the first time should take around 30 seconds.
2. Disable or Uninstall Unused Apps (60 seconds)

You may not know it, but many of the apps you never even use may be running in the background, eating up precious system resources. From the app that you tried for 5 minutes last month to the shopping app that came preloaded on your phone, every unused app has the potential to weigh your phone down. It’s easy to uninstall apps you’ve downloaded yourself, but crapware is a little harder to dispose of.

If you have rooted your phone, you can completely remove every trace of your preloaded apps. If not, you can still disable those apps through the settings menu. It should take about 10 seconds to uninstall or disable each app you don’t want. It should take you approximately one minute to get rid of 6 apps, longer if you have more crapware to dump.

Downloading the Lightning Launcher, and setting it to run as your default should take 30 seconds.
4. Remove Unnecessary Widgets and Shortcuts (30 seconds)

Even with a speedy App Launcher installed, your phone will use more memory the more widgets and shortcuts it has in memory. Look through your desktops for widgets you don’t absolutely need and remove them by long pressing and dragging them off screen.

Remove a Widget

A number of phones with widgets that advertise services such as media stores or news services. Unless you really want to look at a list of hot YouTube videos or Google Play Books on your home screen every day, remove these.

Dragging half a dozen shortcuts and widgets off  of your desktops should take 30 seconds.
5. Limit or Disable Background Data (10 to 60 seconds)

Your email, your Gmail, your Facebook, your Twitter and your backup app all want to ping the Internet for data on a regular basis. All that syncing not only eats up your battery, but also takes up system resources and slows your device down.

There are some services you may want to sync in real time, but there are others you can check manually. For example, if you don’t need to be alerted the moment you get a Facebook mention or receive an email to your personal account, you can prevent those from connecting in the background.

To disable background data for all apps:

    Navigate to Settings.
    Tap Data usage.
    Select Data Usage
Launch the context menu by tapping the three dots in the upper left corner of the screen or hitting the menu button (on Samsung and LG phones).
    Select Data Usage
Toggle Autosync data to off and tap Ok on the warning that comes up.
    Select Autosync Data

To disable background data for Gmail, Google+ and other Google Services:

Navigate to Settings. You can get to the Android settings menu from the notification drawer or apps menu.
    Tap on Google under accounts.
Tap the Account You Want to Stop From Syncing
Tap the account name.  If the sync icon next to the account name is green, it has sync permission. If it is gray, syncing is already disabled.
    Select Your Gmail account
Toggle all types of data syncing to off, including email, contacts and calendar.
    Toggle Sync to Off

To turn off background data in other apps such as Facebook or the standalone email client,  you must go directly into their settings’ menus and find the option to never update or update manually. Disabling all your background at once should take just 10 seconds, but if you want to manually disable Gmail, Facebook and email client autosync separately, this process could take as long as a  minute.
Depending on how many apps you need to uninstall and services you wish to disable, you could finish speeding up your phone in as little as 2 minutes and 40 seconds. That’s a very small time investment to make your smartphone snappier.

Recovery Data from broken memory card

How to Recover Data From a Dead or broken memory card

If the components in your drive are still functioning, you can recover the data yourself. If there's mechanical damage, send it to the pros. PM's complete guide to getting your files back.

so I have been having problems with my SD card. I was downloading music last night and it was working perfectly. Then I put my phone on the charger & when I woke up this morning there was a notification on my phone that said the card was unexpectedly removed. The SD card was in the phone the whole time & for some odd reason my phone can't read it (even though I ejected it & put it back in). I know it's not the phone acting up because I tried it with another SD card & that one worked perfectly fine. So what I want to know is what could have caused my SD card to just stop working like that? & is there any possible way that I can transfer all of my data from the messed up card to brand new card?

CardRecovery is the most focused of the applications reviewed here: It exists mainly to recover files from memory cards used in cameras. The only file types it works with are JPG and RAW-format image files, and video and audio files (e.g., AVI, MPG, MOV, MP3, WAV). It will not search for documents, archive formats, some image formats (such as Photoshop or PNG) and other day-to-day file types.

CardRecovery
CardRecovery Click to view larger image.

On the plus side, CardRecovery offered the best detection of CR2 files I found. In addition, its wizard interface made the recovery process quite easy. To begin a scan, just enter a drive letter, a camera brand (optional) and/or a file type (also optional), and a destination folder in which to save the recovered files.

The results of the scan are shown incrementally, although there's no preview mode during the scan, which makes it harder to tell if a given file is in fact what you're looking for without stopping the scan. A full scan of each of my 8GB devices took just under 10 minutes.

Once the scan's complete, you can preview JPGs (but only JPGs) and the program window can't be resized, so you can't ever see more than six thumbnails on the screen at once. This makes it a little harder to deal with RAW-format files, especially since file names aren't recovered: It might be easier to just recover everything and sort it out later.

Because CardRecovery can only work with devices that have a drive letter, it may not be of much use if you're dealing with a card whose partition information is damaged and therefore can't be assigned a drive letter. (PhotoRec, in contrast, can work with any device even if there's no partition data.)

CardRecovery offers a free trial version that will scan media and find lost files, but you must buy the full version to recover them.

CardRecovery download is less than 1 MB and you may get it in less than two minutes. Run the downloaded executable file and follow the instructions to install it to your computer. Then launch it from the Start Menu -> Programs -> CardRecovery. CardRecovery has three steps to complete the recovery.

  • Step 1: Select your camera brand and file type to recover (photo/video/audio).

  • Step 2: CardRecovery will scan your CF Card for lost files.

  • Step 3: CardRecovery will display all the recovered pictures in thumbnails to allow you to select the desired pictures before saving.

Usually, in less than 10 minutes, you will get back all or most of your lost photos from the CF Card using the software. Using Card Recovery is safe because it performs read-only operations on your source card and it saves the recovered pictures to a destination folder you specify.
CF Card Recovery Tips:

1. For a damaged or file system corrupted CF Card, Windows may prompt you to format the CF Card when it attempts to read and access the card. Please ignore that message and do not format it before you recover the lost photos.

2. To avoid possibly overwriting, do not take more pictures on the same memory card before you recover them. But if you have done that, try CardRecovery and it may still be able to recover the remainder pictures in most cases, but the pictures that were written over are unrecoverable.

cf card reader3. When you connect your digital camera to your computer, it may not appear as a drive letter in "My Computer", an external CF Card reader is needed. It will allow CardRecovery to access your memory card and recover the lost pictures. Some new desktops and laptops may already build in card reader.

Bottom line

If quickly recovering data from cameras is a priority, CardRecovery might be well worth the $40. Since the trial version allows you to preview recovered files, you can try that first to see if it suits your needs.

Windows 10 review: hands on with Windows 10
- the positive return of the Start Menu and other Desktop UI features
FREE upgrade for Windows users
Manufacturer: Microsoft
By Matt Egan | PC Advisor | 21 January 15
As the Windows 10 release grows nearer, here's what we think of its first take on Windows 10, the Technical Preview, in our Windows 10 hands-on review.

Tonight Microsoft will unveil the Windows 10 Consumer Preview. Here's what we thought of its first take on Windows 10, the Technical Preview, in our Windows 10 hands-on review. For more details follow our Windows 10 event live blog and video stream from 5pm (UK time) and check out our Windows 10 UK release date, price and new features round-up.

Windows 10 review: what is Windows 10?

Microsoft in late 2014 took the wraps off the Technical Preview of its next Windows operating system, and in doing so it took everyone by surprise. We expected the next generation of Windows: we just didn't expect it to be called Windows 10. None the less here is Windows 10: the next Windows OS for PCs and laptops, smartphones and tablets . And, indeed, an OS for servers and all points inbetween.

Microsoft execs said that Windows 10 would be built from the ground up for a world in which mobile- and cloud computing are key. They also told us that Microsoft was committed to making Windows 10 friendly for the enterprise, ideal for keyboard and mouse users, but also optimised for touch. Oh, and Windows 10 will put the same interface on devices with displays ranging in size from 4in to 80in. 'One product family, one platform, one store,' says Microsoft.

Given the lukewarm reaction to compromised Windows 8, these seem like bold claims. They are probably necessary. (See also: Windows 10 Technical Preview launch as it happened.)

Also necessary is Microsoft's decision to make Windows 10 the most beta-tested product it has ever released. Windows 10 Technical Preview will be available to everyone who wants to test it from today - October 1 2014. Given that we don't expect it to launch until the middle of next year, that is a longer test period than we have previously seen. And the version of Windows that Microsoft is sharing is very far from the final code. Microsoft tells us to expect the Charms to change, for instance.

Critically the Start Menu contains standard Windows software and Windows Apps. Modern UI apps. So you can use those apps from within the Desktop area. Hopefully this removes some of the pointless division in Windows on X86 systems. It should also help Microsoft make good on its claim that Windows 10 will feel familiar to Windows 7 users. But we are a long way from that just now.

All of which means that this article is very far from a final Windows 10 review. More of a flavour of what to expect. As yet there is no music, IE or video to be found. We're guessing that won't be the case come launch in 2015. We brought you live coverage of the Windows 10 launch event, and our colleague Mark Hachman - he works for our sister title PCWorld.com - spent some time getting hands on with Windows 10 Technical Preview, and gave us detailed thoughts on some of the new features. We share some of them here with you in no particular order. You can get all the hard facts on Windows 10 in our article: Windows 10 release date, price, features. The next version of Windows will run on everything: smartphones, tablets, laptops and PCs.

Windows 10 review

Windows 10 review: search improvements

Personally I think that universal search in Windows 8 is a much-undervalued feature. Searching to load up apps and files is much more efficient than navigating via apps and file systems. And going by the Technical Preview Microsoft has made strides in this area.

Because, quite simply, Windows 10 sees a search button added to the taskbar. This in one important move one of the few important aspects of the Windows 8 Start page is pulled into the Desktop. Microsoft officials tell us that Search and File Explorer now displays your recent files and frequently visited folders. This should make finding files you've worked on faster and easier. It's difficult to test this on a demo machine, but we look forward to trying it out on the Technical Preview just as soon as we can get it installed.

Windows 10 review: Snap Assist and windowed apps

With Snap Assist every app in Windows 10 can be dynamically resized in a window. And unlike in Windows 8 - where a snapped app takes up half the screen - with Windows 10 up to four apps can be snapped per screen. This has the potential to be a killer productivity app - true multitasking in a single window.

Even better, Snap a document to one side of the screen, and Snap Assist will suggest others that you may wish to open. Snap an app and Windows 10 suggests another, similar app that you might want to snap next to it. Mark was impressed with his brief test: "The feature is intended to save you the hassle of hunting about through menus to actually construct a virtual desktop. Time will tell whether these suggestions will prove useful, but it's a good start.

"You can see, however, that a number of different features - Snap Assist, windowed apps, virtual desktops - all flow somewhat organically into one another. I'm honestly interested to see what difference they make in my own daily workflow."

Windows 10 review

Windows 10 review: the all-new Start Menu

Now we get on to the big stuff. The Start Menu is back, back, back baby. But this time it is improved, and it may even make Windows apps useful. Look to the left and you'll see a list of frequently used apps and shortcuts to PC settings. Here you will also find documents and pictures folders. At the bottom we see an 'All apps' shortcut.

And Microsoft has retained the functionality of the Windows 8 Start screen over on the right, with resizeable Live Tiles so that you can immediately check unread mail or Calender appointments. The Start Menu is customisable - you can resize it, and rearrange the tabs, You can also revert to the Windows 8 Start page, should you wish to. Who will wish to?

Mark wasn't impressed with the Windows 10 Start Menu's looks, but he can see the beauty within: "Aesthetically, it looks like someone surgically conjoined the Windows 7 and Windows 8 experience. Move past that inelegance, however, and it's darn useful." (See also: Windows 10 release date, price, features. The next version of Windows will run on everything: smartphones, tablets, laptops and PCs.)

Windows 10 review: Task View, virtual desktops, ALT-TAB

Another useful and visual productivity enhancer is the way that Task View allows you to create a kind of multi-monitor setup within a single monitor. As with previous versions of Windows you can use ALT-TAB to quickly shuffle between windows. The killer difference here is the new Task View button. Third from the left in the Windows Taskbar is the Task View button. Press it - or hit Windows+TAB - and you will see an array of 'virtual desktops', virtual displays into which you can snap multiple apps. So you could keep your email and web browser on one Desktop that you hide away when you are working on an Excel spreadsheet.
